Keratoconus

Keratoconus is a disorder that occurs when the normally round cornea (clear front layer of the eye) becomes thin and cone shaped. This irregular shape causes light to be improperly focused on the retina and thus causes distortion of vision. Symptoms include blur, distorted vision, glare, and light sensitivity. Keratoconus usually develops in the late teens to early 20’s and may progressively worsen over time. Treatment may range from specially designed contact lenses to surgical intervention.
